Port Lympne

6 week old baby rhino Zuri

I’ve been looking forward to writing about my short break safari at Kent’s Port Lympne Reserve ever since I got home.

But every time I sit down to tell you about the experience, I end up getting distracted by all my photos of the cute baby rhino, ickle giraffe and all the other animals they have roaming around the Romney Marsh.

I’ve used all my willpower today to stop oohing and ahhing over the wildlife photos for 5 minutes to explain why an overnight trip sleeping under the stars at the South East’s wild animal park is an amazing excursion for anyone.

For animal lovers like me, who want an inspiring, as well as an indulgent, weekend away it is amazing to think this is all little more than an hour away from London

See ya later alligator

At number 2 on my top 10 travel lessons to transform your trips is the importance of getting up close with nature and especially wildlife at any (respectful & safe) opportunity.

No matter how much I travel absolutely nothing reminds me of how lucky I am to see so much of the world and puts a huge smile on my face like meeting animals in their natural environment – and on my second ever visit to Florida I managed to finally fit in an Everglades Alligator Tour.

As well as being delighted I’d decided to take the tour while in the Sunshine State, I was even more happy with the resulting pictures – and memories.

Here’s what I think you need to know before your Everglades alligator tour

Queen of Fallas for a day

That time I was the Queen of Fallas for a day – complete with traditional Valencian costume

This isn’t exactly a news flash, but we girls like getting dressed up.

And from the moment I arrived in Valencia I was determined to do one thing (besides eat paella): dress up in the famous Fallas festival costume, and become a Spanish Queen for the day.

And here’s another thing about girls; we already think we’re royalty, and we usually get what we want

Hide Your face With Spanish Lace: The Story Of The Valencia Fan

Valencia fan: There are some colourful fans on display in the city’s shop windows

Despite the Brits’ well-documented love affair with the Spanish coast, I never went on a family holiday to Spain as a child.

Yet one of my most treasured possessions as a little girl was a delicate handheld Spanish lace fan.

So when I was given the opportunity to meet a traditional Valencia fan maker in the city which is packed with these ornate hand-made and hand-painted souvenirs, I was filled with a childhood sense of wonderment – and couldn’t wait to learn about the process of producing these gorgeous – and girlie – wearable works of art.

Photo Story: How I Fell In LUV With Mexico

Southwest Heart

I’m sending a big smoochy Valentine e-card to the Mayan Riviera today  – and want to share with y’all the photo story of why I’m now sweet on the Dallas-based airline that helped me fall in LUV at first sight with the beaches of Mexico.

Just like any couple, Southwest Airlines and Mexico may not be 100% perfect all the time, but their hearts are in the right place.

Or in the case of the world’s biggest low cost airline, 97 places, making them the perfect Valentine for me…

Banyan Tree Mayakoba Blog

Banyan Tree Mayakoba

Mexico’s Riviera Maya isn’t short on publicity for its vacation charms, and the entire Yucatan Peninsula isn’t exactly bereft of 5 Star hotel options.

So chances are if you’re headed to this area of Mexico you already know exactly what you want, and that’s likely to be a luxurious haven of relaxation encompassing the holy holiday trinity of sun, sea and sand. With a bit of spa thrown in for extra serenity.

The hard part is choosing which of the many possible beachside palaces in which to set up your private kingdom and feel like royalty for a few blissful days and nights.

I chose the Banyan Tree at Mayakoba, and it certainly conquered my heart and ensured I was laying down my arms within minutes of arrival…

Brussels at Christmas

Brussels at Christmas

At the start of winter I usually struggle with the idea of weekends away to colder European countries – ever clinging onto that last bit of winter sun.

But that all changes come Christmas when I’m a sucker for short breaks to snowy cities and can’t wait to hit the European Christmas markets to stock up on stockings, buy more bobbly hats and glug down some Glühwein.

Here are my recommendations for the best Christmas markets in Europe
